Project Spotlight: Dana Koebbe Interiors

Tell us about your business and this project:

Dana Koebbe’s design philosophy is that design can be functional and inspiring, there does not need to be a compromise between the two. In a digital world of see then copy, each of her projects hold an individualized identity. This cerused wood bar is no exception.

What were the client's needs and how did you meet them?

This bar was designed for the main entertaining/living space of a townhome in New Canaan, Connecticut. With the kitchen on the first floor, we wanted to give the client a statement bar in the second floor living room. The bar includes an integrated dual zone beverage wine fridge as well as a bar sink.

What or who was your design inspiration?

I had recently made a cocktail table out of cerused wood and loved the finish. Tiring of the usual painted cabinetry, I wanted to bring back wood but in a rich and contemporary way. I am also very into using metals right now, so we integrated brushed stainless steel on the shelf dividers as well as on the toe kick.

What was your favorite part of designing this project?

I had a lot of creative freedom to play with different materials and make this bar feel like a fine piece of furniture, not just cabinetry.

What was a challenge that you faced along the way?

Finding the perfect paint color for the outer frame to coordinate with the cerused wood took dozens of samples. After much deliberation I went with my old faithful Sherwin Williams Alpaca. It has never failed me as a warm neutral grey, and it compliments wood tones so well.

What was your process for selecting the hardware for this project?

When selecting the hardware for this bar I definitely wanted to specify Hamilton Sinkler pulls for the quality and aesthetic. I am immediately attracted to the Hamilton Sinkler display boards when I’m sourcing—the hardware designs always lend well to the style of project I am working on.

What appealed to you in your selection of Hamilton Sinkler hardware?

I am all about proportions and the DP092 pulls are very balanced in their design. You can also never go wrong with the polished nickel finish, it’s very classic and beautiful.
